Highs and Lows of the Algarve Temperatures and Climate
The Algarve temperatures are very warm for most of the year and the Algarve is well known for its abuntant sunshine. The Algarve is a fairly dry place with virtually no rain in the summer months and about a week of rainy days during the winter months. Tourism and related activities are extensive and make up the bulk of the Algarve’s summer economy. Fish, seafood and fruit production, which includes oranges, carob beans, figs and almonds, are other important activities in the region.
The temperature in Vilamoura in September and October is warm with temp ranges of between 14 and 27 degrees celcius and in March and April average temperatures are within the range of 9 and 19 degrees celcius. There are 6 hours of sunshine per day in December and January and this increases peaking at 12 hours in July.
At night the west is warmer in the winter than the eastern Algarve and in the summer cooler. This is caused by the moderating effect of the Atlantic ocean. In the western Algarve temperatures are generally cooler in the day in summer and warmer in winter than in the eastern Algarve.
The average Sagres temperature in January and Febuary ranges between 7 and 17 degrees celcius and in August and September it increases to between 17 and 29 degrees. The small town cannot rival those of the southern coast, it is, however, well-known for its historic interest, and is a good departure point to explore the superb surrounding beaches.
